CARE Privacy Notice for Donors Outside the United States

We at CARE are grateful to all of our supporters including donors who help us do our work. We believe that transparency with our supporters enhances the quality of our programs, accountability, and the trust placed in us. As such, we would like to share how we collect and use your personal information and how we intend to respect your privacy preferences.

CARE owns, operates or provides access to global.care.org (the “Site”), a website that is geared towards our supporters outside the United States. This Privacy Notice applies only to the Site and does not govern the separate websites (including care.org), applications, newsletters, platforms and services operated by CARE. This Privacy Notice explains our privacy practices in handling the information we collect about individuals outside of the United States who use our Site.

This Notice may be changed if there is a change in the way CARE processes personal data or if there is a change in applicable law. We will notify users of changes that are deemed material under applicable law by updating the date of this Notice and providing other information as required.

Information we Collect Directly from You

Personal information collected directly from you may include your name, address, telephone number(s), email address(s), or other information. We also request that you provide us with additional personal information, such as credit card information, on our online donation pages to properly enable donation transaction processing.

Information We Collect Through Automatic Data Collection Technologies

We may automatically collect the following information about your use of the Site through cookies, web beacons, and other technologies: your domain name; your browser type and operating system; web pages you view; your IP address; the length of time and number of times you visit our Site ; and the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to our site, and the following: access time, browser type, device ID, domain name, IP address, page views, pages visited and referring URL. We may combine this information with other information that we have collected about you, including, where applicable, your name, and other personal information.

You can manage your cookie settings, including accepting or rejecting cookies, by clicking the “Cookie Settings” button.

How We Use Your Information

The information we collect enables us to improve our work, communicate with you about our programs, respond to your inquiries and provide support, fulfill your requests and donations, and for other donor service purposes. We also use information to improve our understanding of your interests and better tailor the content and information that we may send or display to you, such as newsletters or other information we think may interest you.

How Personal Information is Shared

We may share your information, including personal information, as follows:

  • Social Media Users – We invite you to post content on our social media services, including your comments, pictures, and any other information that you would like to be available. If you post your own content, your posting may become public, and we cannot prevent such information from being used in a manner that may violate this Policy, the law, or your personal privacy. We have no control over how any social media service uses or discloses the personal information it collects about you. For information about how they may use and disclose your information, including any information you make public, please consult their respective privacy policies.
  • Third-Party Websites – The Site may contain links to third-party websites. Any access to and use of such linked websites is not governed by this Privacy Notice, but instead is governed by the privacy policies of those third-party websites. We are not responsible for the information practices or content of these other websites.
  • Service Providers – We may disclose the information we collect from you to third party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents who perform functions on our behalf.CARE Uses Fundraise Up as an online donation platform on the Site. When making a donation, information collected by Fundraise Up may include contact and account information such as name, email address, physical address, location data, and phone number. All such personal information is encrypted. Certain technical information is also collected. Such information may include standard web log entries that contain IP address, cookies (first party, third party, session, persistent, and flash), web beacons, page URL and timestamp. Financial information is not stored by Fundraise Up.Financial information such as banking information or credit card number, name, CVV code or date of expiration, is collected and stored by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. Stripe meets the highest industry standards for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance, utilizing high-grade encryption to ensure secure transactions, data transfer and data management.
  • Business Transfers – If we establish a new related entity, are acquired by or merged with another organization, or if substantially all of our assets are transferred to another organization, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other organization.
  • In Response to Legal Process – We also may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, or other legal process, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena.
  • To Protect Us and Others – We also may disclose the information we collect from you where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, violations of our Terms of Use or this Policy, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

Lawful Basis by Which we Process your Personal Data

Our processing of your personal data for the purposes mentioned in this Privacy Notice is based in part on our legitimate interest in promoting CARE’s mission and building and maintaining relationships with our supporters, and in part on your consent when you make a donation on the Site.

How Do We Store Your Information

Your data is hosted by a third-party in its regional data hosting location in Europe. However, because CARE is headquartered in the US, your personal data may be accessed by individuals outside of Europe or transferred to the US and/or to countries or territories outside the EEA or Switzerland not recognized by the European Commission as ensuring an adequate level of protection pursuant to the GDPR. CARE will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that personal data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Notice in respect of such transfer.

Your personal data is retained for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirement, or as required by law.

You May Always Change Your Preferences by Contacting Us

Email Opt-Out Procedures – We may send periodic promotional or informational emails to you. You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the e-mail. Please note that it may take up to 5 business days for us to process opt-out requests. If you opt-out of receiving emails about recommendations or other information we think may interest you, we may still send you e-mails about any services you have requested or received from us.

Data Subject Rights of European Union Users

If you are a European Union (EU) resident or citizen currently residing in the EU, for purposes of the General Data Protection Regulations (“GDPR”) the following applies to you:

CARE is a data controller for the purpose of GDPR. By your consenting to this Privacy Notice, CARE is able to process your personal information in accordance with this Notice. As an EU user, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • If you have consented to processing, the right to withdraw consent at any time;
  • Right to request access to your personal information and receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Right to rectification of personal data that is inaccurate or out of date;
  • Right to erasure of your personal data where it is no longer necessary for CARE to retain it;
  • Right to request a restriction on further processing where applicable;
  • Right to request that the data controller transmit your personal data directly to another controller. This right of portability only applies where the processing is based on consent or is necessary for the performance of a contract and if CARE processes the data by automated means;
  • Right to object to processing if the processing is based on legitimate interest; and
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

You may exercise these rights by completing the EU Data Subject Rights Request Form or contacting CARE at info@global.care.org. CARE reserves the right to verify your identity and confirm your right to the information.

Data Security

CARE has put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those employees and third parties who have a business need to access it.

Third parties will only process your personal information held by us where they are obliged to treat the information confidentially and to keep it secure.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected data security breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected breach where we are legally required to do so.

Automated Decision Making and Analysis

CARE does not use automated decision-making or profiling on its Site.

Age Limits

The Site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect data relating to children.
